The BB&T Distinguished Lecture Series

Political analyst and journalist Michael Barone gave the BB&T Distinguished Lecture, “The Prospects for Capitalism and Freedom in 2016 and Beyond,” at 3:30 p.m. March 31 in the Assembly Hall of the Holtzman Alumni Center at the Inn at Virginia Tech.

The talk is hosted by the Pamplin College of Business, and is part of its BB&T Distinguished Lecture Series on Capitalism.

Barone studies politics, American government, and campaigns and elections. The principal coauthor of the annual Almanac of American Politics, he has written many books on American politics and history.

Barone has been a senior political analyst for the Washington Examiner since 2009 and a contributor to the Fox News Channel since 2001.

He was previously a senior writer at U.S. News & World Report and a senior staff editor at Reader’s Digest. He was a member of the Washington Post’s editorial board.

Barone received a bachelor of arts from Harvard University and a bachelor of laws from Yale Law School.

He received a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1964 from the College of Wooster and a Ph.D. in economics in 1971 from the University of Michigan.
