PRISM has been selected as the winner in the 39th annual Telly Awards for two of their video projects within the Pamplin College of Business. The student-run ad agency was awarded a Bronze Telly Award for the 2017 Pamplin graduation video and a Gold Telly Award for the 2017 PRISM Reel.

The Telly Awards, founded in 1979, honor and recognize excellence in video, commercial, television and film productions across all platforms. This is the first year that the Telly Awards are rewarding Gold Telly Awards. PRISM members are proud to be the recipient of the newly debuted award.

The 2017 Pamplin graduation video tells the story of an undergraduate student’s four years as a business major at Virginia Tech highlighting special moments he experiences throughout his college career. Directed by Daniel Mun, Virginia Tech ‘17 alumnus, the video opens up on the student moving into his freshman year dorm and closes on a scene of the same student at graduation. This project received a Bronze Telly Award in the category of General-Education & Discovery for Social Video.

“From the start, I always wanted to tell the story of a young freshman going through all four years as told through moments, both mundane and special as he evolves from a uncertain student to a confident graduate, and PRISM made it possible for us to be able to tell that story,” said Mun about the project. “Without the fostering support of PRISM, film-making would have just been a childhood hobby that never turned into anything more. I don't know where I would be today and I don't think I would even be pursuing the things I am now without PRISM. I am so grateful for everyone within PRISM who helped make this possible and to my multimedia team who worked tirelessly to bring this story to life. I especially want to thank my supervisor, mentor, and close friend, Donna Wertalik, who never ceased to believe in the team and me. This award to me is a symbol that the journey, like the one in the video, is full of uncertainty but with the support of amazing people, it's full of joys and great memories.”

Directed by Rachel Bryner and Ricky Lam, the 2017 PRISM Reel is a spotlight on the on-campus organization highlighting the history, work and students who make up the award-winning marketing and advertising agency. The 2017 PRISM Reel received a Gold Telly Award in the category of Social Video General-Education & Discovery.

“It was really wonderful to see all our hard work and time put into the project pay off,” said Bryner, Director of Multimedia for PRISM, about her work on the 2017 PRISM Reel. “It’s so rewarding to not only us, but the organization as a whole.”

Donna Wertalik, Faculty Advisor of PRISM and Director of Marketing for the Pamplin College of Business, said, "Our first GOLD Telly! The 2017 VT PRISM Reel was completely different than anything we had done in the past. We truly personified our brand, our many angles, views and talents. PRISM represents a living, breathing interdisciplinary organization like no other and this video truly exceeded our goals.”

PRISM won their first Telly Award in 2016 for their “Welcome to Hokie Nation” video and two more in 2017 for their video spotlighting the Pamplin College of Business Global Business and Analytics Complex. The 2018 season brings PRISM’s Telly Award count to five.
