Harnessing Technology: Turning Innovation into Impact at Pamplin

A recent article in The Economist (April 5–11, “Use it or Lose it”) explored the intensifying rivalry between the United States and China in the development and deployment of artificial intelligence. The author makes a provocative argument: in the global race for technological dominance, innovation alone is not enough. What truly matters is who uses the technology first and best. As the article put it, "technological diffusion matters more than technological innovation." In other words, the power lies not just in creating cutting-edge tools, but in applying them to solve meaningful problems

Dr. Singal returns to faculty; Dr. Kumar becomes new interim department head

The Dean announced recently that Prof. Raman Kumar will take over as Interim Department Head for the coming academic year. A search for a permanent Head will occur next year. Please join us in congratulating Prof. Singal on his accomplishments and thanking him for his long and fruitful service and in congratulating Prof. Kumar for his elevation to Department Head.
