The Pamplin College of Business social media group PRISM (Pamplin Re-Inventing Social Media) is the first Virginia Tech organization to win a Telly Award, the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs.
PRISM is being honored for their creation of the 2015 “Welcome to Hokie Nation” preview video that was developed to excite high school seniors that had been accepted into Virginia Tech to join the community in Blacksburg.
Daniel Mun, a junior majoring in Business Management, and Richee Chang, a senior majoring in Visual Communication Design, were the masterminds behind the planning, filming, and post-production of the 1:29 minute video that took home the Telly award in the “Online Video: Online Programs, Segments, or Promotional Pieces” category.
“PRISM has been an instrumental part of the Pamplin College of Business, particularly in its marketing and digital presence” said Robert Sumichrast, Dean of the Pamplin College of Business. “This award recognizes their incredible work and the caliber of students involved.”
Since 2010, PRISM has existed to serve Pamplin in creating a strong social media and cyber presence, and video has recently become an integral part of that mission. This “Welcome to Hokie Nation” video was the first of it’s kind, and Mun is honored to have created something that shows off Virginia Tech and Pamplin so beautifully.
“Through the process of making the video, I became so much more appreciative and aware of all the aspects that make Virginia Tech so special,” said Mun. “I used to take, for lack of a better word, the “coolness” of Virginia Tech for granted. After exploring everything VT has to offer so in depth to create this video, I definitely don’t. It’s so rewarding to have a final product that shares the unique aspects of Virginia Tech with everyone.”
PRISM plans to continue emphasizing video production and hopes to set Pamplin College of Business apart with exceptional videos that showcase it. “We know Pamplin is unique, and video is the best way to really show the world everything we have to offer,” said Patrick Kampfmueller, a senior in PRISM who has served as the account manager for Pamplin for the past year.
“I’m proud of the caliber of interdisciplinary students PRISM is able to attract. These students are truly the top talent across campus who understand what it takes to soar,” said Donna Wertalik, founder and faculty advisor of PRISM.
