On the evening of March 23, the Class of 2019 gathered in the Squires Commonwealth Ballroom to celebrate the 84th Ring Dance, a beloved Virginia Tech tradition. This year’s Ring Collection was named after Tom Tillar, the Special Assistant to the Dean in the Pamplin College of Business.

Tillar is a member of the Class of 1969 and received his own class ring 50 years ago. His well-known classmates include Charles Steger, Frank Beamer, and Ray Smoot who have also been honored as ring namesakes.

“I am honored beyond words and plan to wear my new 2019 ring, presented me by the class, every day,” said Tillar.

Ring Dance is one of the traditions students look forward to the most. On this occasion, juniors receive and wear their new rings, designed by their class’ leadership team.

This year, Vice President for Student Affairs Patty Perillo was also honored as the Class of 2019 Sponsor. Tim Sands, university president, and Dr. Laura Sands, his wife, were present at Ring Dance as well and participated in the traditional Ring Ceremony.
