The Global Business and Analytics Complex

Driven by data

Using data to make better decisions in a complex world is one of the greatest challenges and opportunities of our century. Virginia Tech’s Global Business and Analytics Complex will cement the university as a world leader in developing methods for data analysis and interpretation, and in using data to address problems faced by industry and society.

The complex will include four buildings on the university’s main campus in Blacksburg: two living-learning residential communities and two academic buildings. Together, they will:

  • Bring top students and faculty who share a passion for an analytic approach to problems together, in collaborative work environments, for transdisciplinary research and hands-on learning.
  • Enhance the talent pipeline for the business community in the era of big data and the new technology economy, increasing undergraduate enrollment by 2,000 students in computer engineering, software engineering, and related disciplines such as business information technology.
  • Leverage strengths of the Pamplin College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Science, and other colleges and academic areas that are engaged in the Data Analytics and Decision Sciences Destination Area.
  • Improve our ability to secure research funding, allowing us to make a greater impact.

“We are uniquely positioned as a leader in data science and decision making due to our academic strengths, our culture of service, and presence in the National Capital Region.”

Robert Sumichrast, Dean of the Pamplin College of Business

A transformative project

The Global Business and Analytics Complex will be a major feature of the Blacksburg campus. Plans call for:

  • Two academic buildings of roughly 100,000 square feet each, located near Prices Fork Road. They will house:
    • The Pamplin College of Business, where enrollment is projected to increase by 20 percent.
    • Classrooms and offices for faculty from across the university.
    • Open workspaces for collaborative teaching and research projects.
  • Two residence halls, located south of the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, will offer:
    • Housing for 700 students.
    • Living-learning communities related to analytics, international business, and policy.
