Debra A. Salbador honored with emerita status
Debra A. Salbador, associate professor of accounting and information systems in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of associate professor emerita by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The emerita title may be conferred on retired professors, associate professors, and administrative officers who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.
A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 1994, Salbador has focused on tax policy and how this policy affects taxpayer decisions. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in both academic and practice related journals, including The Journal of the American Taxation Association, Advances in Taxation, Journal of Accounting Literature, Tax Notes, The Tax Adviser, and Oil and Gas Tax Quarterly.
Her scholarship has been presented at conferences sponsored by the American Taxation Association, the American Accounting Association, and the National Tax Association. She has given seminars on tax planning at the accounting and auditing conference organized by Virginia Tech and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. She has also taught continuing tax education programs for public accounting firms and the American Institute of CPAs.
In the classroom, Salbador has taught a variety of accounting and tax courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. She has directed both master’s and doctoral students and has served on numerous doctoral dissertation committees. Widely considered one of the best teachers in her department, Salbador has received numerous college and departmental teaching awards.
Salbador received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of New Orleans and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.
