Marshall Vance named L. Mahlon Harrell Faculty Fellow
Marshall Vance, associate professor of accounting and information systems in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, was recently named L. Mahlon Harrell Faculty Fellow in Accounting and Information Systems by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The L. Mahlon Harrell Senior Faculty Fellowship in Accounting and Information Systems was established by alumni and friends to honor Harrell, who was a faculty member in the Department of Accounting from 1931 until his retirement in 1971. The fellowship recognizes teaching and research excellence and recipients retain the fellowship for a three-year period.
A member of the Virginia Tech community since 2019, Vance’s research interest is in the design and performance consequences of executive and broad-based compensation and other control systems. He has published three articles in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and has developed a strong research pipeline. He serves as an ad hoc reviewer for 10 of the top journals in his field and was twice recognized as an outstanding reviewer.
In the classroom, Vance teaches financial statement analysis and receives high ratings for his teaching effectiveness.
Prior to his faculty appointment at Virginia Tech, Vance was a member of the faculty at the University of Southern California. He received his bachelor's degree and master’s degree from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
