Curtis Mabry, a longtime member of the Hokie Nation as both an alumnus and a member of the human resources team, has been named assistant vice president for consulting and strategic services.

He is one of the longest tenured members of Virginia Tech’s human resources (HR) division, joining in 2001 as an HR specialist. Since then, he has held multiple roles, including senior compensation analyst, human resources manager, director of staffing and recruiting, senior director of human resources initiatives and partnerships, and executive director of consulting and strategic initiatives.

“Curtis is an exceptional leader, a strategic thinker, and a trusted business partner,” said Bryan Garey, vice president for human resources. “He has played an important role in Virginia Tech’s HR transformation, in particular leading our efforts to build a cohort of division directors.”

Division directors lead the development and delivery of HR services and programs within individual business units and colleges. Mabry has played a key role in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding the division directors and, in his new role, will guide the delivery of services and each director's efforts.

He will continue to lead other strategic functions such as data analytics and the HR generalist team and provide direct leadership to clients as needs warrant. He also identifies opportunities and spearheads strategic change efforts.

Mabry received a bachelor’s degree in business management from Virginia Tech and holds the SPHR human resources certification.
