Pamplin College of Business’s Office for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) recently held its second On the Move with DEIB, a professional development trip for students. The outing engaged over 50 Hokies from various organizations, including Finance for Females and Friends, Pamplin's Multicultural Diversity Council, and Pamplin's Undergraduate Mentoring Program, among others, who participated in a transformative one-day excursion to Richmond, Virginia.

On the Move with DEIB served as a pivotal platform for connecting students with corporate partners such as Altria, CapTech Consulting, Cary Street Partners, and CoStar Group. Throughout the day, students engaged in meaningful interactions, gaining insights into employment and internship opportunities, graduate school pathways, and the significance of fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the business world.

“Providing our students with direct exposure to industry leaders and corporate partners is integral to our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive business community,” said Emily McCorkle. director for student success with Pamplin DEIB. “The trip not only empowers students with valuable networking opportunities but also underscores the importance of equity and inclusion in driving innovation and success.”

Students had the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions, panel discussions, and networking activities, enabling them to gain firsthand insights into the corporate landscape and explore potential career paths aligned with their interests and aspirations. The event facilitated meaningful dialogue surrounding the importance of creating inclusive workplaces that celebrate diversity and foster a sense of belonging among employees.

“Virginia Tech’s motto – Ut Prosim (That I May Serve) – is something that I’ve felt very strongly about both during my time at Virginia Tech and post-graduation,” said Christina Todd ’09, vice president and financial advisor with Cary Street Partners and member of the Finance Advisory Board. “I was very fortunate to be presented with many opportunities from our alumni network while at Virginia Tech. Since graduation, I have wanted to pay it forward to the next generation of Hokies. The students asked great questions and we thoroughly enjoyed their visit.”

Todd continued, “The future is bright for these Hokies.”
