Responsibilities

Laura primarily supports the work of the Engagement team. As the self-proclaimed “Swiss Army Knife” for the team, she works on a wide range of tasks, project management, and special projects for the Pamplin Advancement Team.

Education

Laura arrived in Blacksburg in 1982 to complete her Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Design in 1984 after attending The Theatre School of DePaul University for a year. And like some Hokies, after graduation, Laura never left Blacksburg and joined the University community. Originally from Texas, Laura earned her B.F.A. at Sam Houston State University in 1978.

Background

Laura joined the Pamplin Advancement Office in March of 2024 as a part-time team member following her 2023 retirement after over 35 years with the university, 29 years with Alumni Relations and Advancement in Student Engagement and Philanthropy. Her career focused on student engagement, advising class programs, the Class Ring Program, and Student Alumni Associates, while also leading alumni events. She brings to Pamplin years of experience with event management and engagement with Virginia Tech alumni.

Working with students, alumni, and special Hokies has been the highlight of her years with Alumni Relations. Outside of work, she enjoys university and local history, including Historic Smithfield. She is a proud member of the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad since 2014.
