Majors & Minors

Business Has a Place for You

Choosing a major is a big decision — and at Pamplin, you don’t have to make it alone. With one of the broadest collections of business majors and minors in the country, Pamplin gives every student a place to explore their interests, discover strengths, and shape a future that fits.

More than 25% of our students start as Business–Undecided, giving them time to try foundational business courses, talk with faculty, connect with career advisors, and learn what truly motivates them. By the time they declare a major, most students have a clear sense of direction and the confidence to move forward.

Your Options, Your Advantage

Majors

A major is your primary field of study — the academic area that shapes most of your upper-level coursework and often aligns with the type of career you pursue after graduation. Pamplin offers a diverse range of majors, from finance and marketing to cybersecurity, hospitality, analytics, entrepreneurship, real estate, and more.

Find Your Fit Before You Commit

Not everyone arrives knowing exactly which business path they want to pursue — and at Pamplin, that’s expected. More than 25% of our students start as Business–Undecided, using their first semesters to explore interests, build confidence, and discover what motivates them.

Choosing Business–Undecided gives you a smart, flexible start:

  • Begin with the business essentials.
You’ll take Pamplin’s foundational business courses right away, building skills that apply to every major.

  • Explore majors with purpose.
Sample different fields, talk with faculty, and learn how each major connects to careers and industries.

  • Get guided support.
Academic advisors, faculty mentors, and career coaches help you make informed choices and stay on track.

  • Work on real business problems early.
Hands-on coursework and applied assignments let you experience the kind of work business students do every day.

  • Move into any Pamplin major when you’re ready.
Once you find your direction, shifting into your chosen major is simple and supported.

Many of our most successful students began their journey this way — exploring widely, discovering what fits, and choosing a major with confidence and clarity.

Minors

A minor allows you to add depth or breadth to your degree. Minors are typically a smaller set of courses that complement your major or help you build business fluency in an additional area — such as digital marketing, entrepreneurship, real estate, sales, or business sustainability.

Many students combine a major with one or more minors to strengthen their skill set or stand out in the job market.
