Meghan Byrnes
My name is Meghan Byrnes, and I am a graduating senior majoring in Hospitality Tourism Management from Charlottesville, VA. I have spent my time at Virginia Tech as a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and Relay For Life.
Outside of academics and extracurriculars, I also work as a Varsity Lacrosse coach at Christiansburg High School. Here I have helped build a new program and create long-lasting relationships with all the girls on the team. Teaching the game of lacrosse and becoming a mentor to these girls has been one of the best experiences of my life. Relay For Life and the fight against cancer has been a passion of mine for the past 8 years, starting in September of 2013 when I joined my High School’s Relay For Life club. While at the time, I thought this would be just another after-school activity, I now realize that this was the first step towards a journey that will carry me for the rest of my life. As I applied to Virginia Tech, I was applying for Relay. I wanted nothing more than to be a part of not only the world’s #1 collegiate Relay For Life but also a campus that values the importance of giving back to your community through Ut Prosim. After serving on the executive committee for 2 years, I am proud to be a Director of this year’s Relay For Life at Virginia Tech as it is truly a dream come true.
As I conclude my time here at Virginia Tech, I hope to continue volunteering with the American Cancer Society and transition into working full-time with them and other Relay For Life events in Virginia.
