Alexa Vergelli
lexa Vergelli of Montgomery Village, Maryland is a senior majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a minor in International Business. Throughout her four years at Virginia Tech, Alexa has been very involved both inside and outside of the classroom, as a member of the Honors College and as a leader in multiple student organizations.
As President of the Hospitality Management Association, Alexa oversees the organization’s officer panel, leads organization meetings, and helps plan special events such as the HTM Department Advisory Board Dinners, Destinations Career Fair, and the HMA Silent Auction fundraiser. She also currently serves as Vice President of Eta Sigma Delta International Hospitality Honor Society.
Outside of HTM, Alexa enjoys working on the organizing team of VTHacks, Virginia Tech’s student-run hackathon that attracts over 400 students from across the country annually. For the last three years, Alexa has served as the Director of Catering, planning meals for attendees throughout the event.
Alexa’s professional passion is event planning. Her experience includes internships at the Smithsonian Institution Office of Special Events and Protocol and at VT Continuing and Professional Education, and she also works in the VT Event Planning Office during the academic year. Her scholarship and leadership have been recognized by the Professional Convention Management Association Legacy Scholarship and several department scholarships, as well as membership in Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
Alexa’s personal interests include a love of baseball (she has visited 25 of the 30 Major League Baseball stadiums and has plans to visit the remaining five) and baking.
