Lockheed Martin executive Leo S. Mackay Jr. will discuss ethics as a business imperative on April 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Burruss Auditorium as the featured speaker of the Del Alamo/Hogan Symposium on Business Ethics, hosted by the Pamplin College of Business.

A question-and-answer session, moderated by management professor Richard Wokutch, will follow the talk. The event is free and open to the public, no tickets needed. Parking information is available here.

The college will also mark the week of April 1 as “Ethics Week,” Wokutch said, and invites faculty to take some time in class to discuss ethical issues related to their course content.

Mackay is senior vice president of internal audit, ethics, and assurance at the Bethesda, Maryland, global security and aerospace company.

As the chief audit executive, he provides independent, objective assurance and advice to improve the corporation’s operations. He is also on the board of directors of LM Ventures, Lockheed Martin’s $200 million venture capital fund.

In previous roles at the company, he served as vice president of corporate domestic business development and president of ICGS LLC, a joint venture of Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman focused on the U.S. Coast Guard’s modernization.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Mackay spent three years flying the F-14 and graduated from the U.S. Navy’s Fighter Weapons School (Topgun). He was deputy secretary and designated chief operating officer of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Currently, Mackay is a member of the U.S. Naval Institute and the Council on Foreign Relations. He is an independent director of Cognizant Inc. and USAA Federal Savings Bank and a strategic advisor to Pegasus Capital Advisors.

Mackay earned a master's degree and a doctorate in public policy from Harvard University. He was a Kennedy Fellow, Harvard MacArthur Scholar, Graduate Prize Fellow, and a Research Fellow at the Center for Science and International Affairs.

In its 28th year, the ethics symposium is supported by Pamplin alumni Robert F. Hogan Jr., who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting in 1978 and 1980, respectively, and Jorge Del Alamo Jr., who earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1969, and his wife, Lin.
