Black Entrepreneurs Summer Academy (BESA)

Benefits of attending the Black Entrepreneurs Summer Academy (BESA):

  • Mentorship, networking, and friendships developed with other local/regional students.
  • Experience the practical application of entrepreneurial research and develop key entrepreneurship skills such as: 
    • How to generate an idea
    • Self-care as an entrepreneur
    • Accounting, finance and Marketing 101
  • Exposure to the Black student experience at Virginia Tech.
  • Build connections and network with faculty and staff in the Pamplin College of Business and Virginia Tech.
  • Participate in workshops focused around business and personal & professional growth.
  • Attend guest speaker sessions presented by partners from various organizations, including but not limited to:  (see speaker list bios)
  • Participate in a Virginia Tech Athletics tour of Lane Stadium and Cassell Coliseum and a meet-and-greet with student athletes. 
  • Participate in outdoor team building and engaging activities, such as the Venture Out Ropes Course. 
  • Participate in a Pitch competition at the end of the Academy. 

* All benefits will be extended to those who successfully complete the program. 

All applications to the Black Entrepreneurs Summer Academy are due by Friday, May 28th.

Students will be notified by Monday, June 7th if they are selected for the program and will have until Friday, June 18th to complete the remaining registration form.


Speakers

TJ CANTY, NBA 2K LEAGUE

Talmadge Canty jr or TJ as he’s known in the industry, has been a part of events and entertainment industry for over 16 years. Originally from Detroit Michigan, he’s now the Director of Events and Operation for the NBA’s 4thleague the “NBA 2K League” Where he oversees ideation, planning and execution of all their broadcast’s for both linier and streaming services as well the public facing events.
