As the Director of Advising, Katie oversees academic advising services and daily operations of the advising team in the Pamplin Undergraduate Programs Office. She is responsible for coordinating a team of ten academic advisors, assisting the Associate Dean with curriculum changes and conducting advising assessment, along with other college and university-level responsibilities. She also works closely with the University Registrar, Student Athlete Academic Support Services, and Pamplin’s Student Advancement and Careers Services team.
Katie earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise from Virginia Tech. She loved Blacksburg so much that she decided to stick around for two more years and earn her master’s degree in Education. Advising student athletes in Student Athlete Academic Support Services during her graduate studies, she realized she loved working with students on a daily basis and wanted to pursue a career in academic advising. After working briefly at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., she was able to return to Blacksburg with her husband Andrew, a former VT baseball player. She and Andrew have two daughters, Landry and Sullivan.
Katie enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and vacationing in Nags Head, N.C. She also loves to DVR her favorite TV shows including, “Nashville,” “Law and Order: SVU,” and “Modern Family.”
