Statement of Unity
March 19, 2021
We will grieve together, we will adapt together, and eventually, we will thrive together.
– Jeremy Lin, Professional Basketball Player
Dear Pamplin College of Business Community,
We are saddened by the news of the senseless killings in Atlanta, Georgia that has echoed across the nation; our hearts are with the victims and families impacted by this act of terrorism. In this moment, we are reminded that violence against persons of Asian descent in the U.S. is a national crisis. We acknowledge and affirm the many citizens of Pamplin who are suffering because of these shootings and the countless attacks against members of our Asian community. Xenophobia, racism, prejudice, hatred, and intolerance are counter to our values, and we will continue our efforts to advance the civil and human rights of all. We are better together and reflect upon our Principles of Community to inspire change.
By now, you may have read and reflected on the statement President Tim Sands and Vice President Menah Pratt-Clarke issued in response to recent events. We join their efforts in the coming weeks to offer support and address issues on campus and beyond.
Additionally, the Office for Inclusion and Diversity, with recommendations from Dr. Nina Ha, Director of the Asian Cultural Engagement Center, the APIDA Caucus, and the Asian America Student Union, has prepared the guide #StopAAPIHate: Resisting Xenophobia and Showing Support for Asian Pacific Islander Desi Americans (APIDA) to facilitate departmental discussions and to prompt further study, action, and awareness of intersectional identities.
Lastly, the Coalition for Justice presents:
