Donald Kohn, former vice chair of the Federal Reserve, and an expert on monetary policy, financial regulation, and macroeconomics, is currently a senior fellow in the economic studies program at the Brookings Institution.

A 40-year veteran of the Federal Reserve System, he advised Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke throughout the 2008-2009 financial crisis and was a key adviser to former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan.

Before joining the board of governors of the Federal Reserve, he was an adviser to the board for monetary policy, secretary of the federal open market committee, director of the division of monetary affairs, and deputy staff director for monetary and financial policy. He served in various positions in the board’s division of research and statistics and chaired the committee on the global financial system.

He received a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1964 from the College of Wooster and a Ph.D. in economics in 1971 from the University of Michigan.
