Pamplin honors students, thanks donors

With the fall semester well underway and the winter holidays fast approaching, the Pamplin College of Business took a moment to step back from the busyness in order to celebrate academic success and to say thank you.
The college held its annual Honors Banquet Program Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, at the German Club near its Blacksburg campus. It was an evening to build community as the program brought together donors and their scholarship recipients, their guests, and Pamplin faculty.
The focus of the honors banquet was on the students and expressing the college’s appreciation of all they have accomplished. Scholarships are critically important for the Pamplin College of Business to attract and retain students with the capacity, drive, and determination to succeed on campus as well as once they graduate and enter the workforce.
Those in attendance recognized the hard work of more than 100 scholarship recipients and shared gratitude for the support given by the generous donors who support Pamplin’s scholarship funds. For those donors who were in attendance, it provided a special moment for them to meet with the students who benefit from their generosity.
Dean Robert Sumichrast welcomed the more than 160 people in attendance. He pointed to the program as one of pride for Pamplin, as it highlights the hard work of high-achieving students, and points to the legacy of support the college receives from alumni and friends to make such scholarships possible.
“The college experience goes beyond classroom work,” said Sumichrast. “This is the time when our college students learn the impact of philanthropy and the importance of building community. At the Pamplin College of Business, we hold Virginia Tech’s motto, Ut Prosim, ‘that I may serve,’ in high regard and ensure it is woven throughout all aspects of the college experience for our students.”
