Practicum gives students a window into Wells Fargo , article

Virginia Tech finance instructor Brian Hart had a good dose of adrenaline leading up to traveling with 14 of his students to the Wells Fargo campus in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is the first time in the six years that he has taught the Wells Fargo/Pamplin winter course that weather was playing a decisive role in whether they would be able to leave from Blacksburg. Luckily, the weather cooperated and everyone arrived to check in to their hotel and get settled before their five days of being immersed in the world of Wells Fargo. Hart admits it was touch-and-go for a while with he and the students in contact with updates and back-up plans. Prior to meeting up in Blacksburg, Hart leads a week-long session with students online preparing them for their shared face-to-face experience.

Pamplin student receives national recognition as she prepares for a future in financial planning , article

For Genna Coan, the preparation to become a financial planner never stops. It doesn’t stop when the semester ends. It doesn’t even stop to ring the closing bell for the Nasdaq Stock Market. Coan was one of 12 students nationwide to be awarded the $5,000 2019 TD Ameritrade Institutional RIA NextGen Scholarship. The scholarship, which was open to all first-, second-, or third-year students pursuing a degree in finance or financial planning, required applicants to submit an essay as to why they would like to work in financial planning along with a letter of reference from a personal or academic contact. To celebrate the achievement, the scholarship recipients were hosted by TD Ameritrade Institutional on a visit to New York City and the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square, where the students helped ring the stock exchange’s closing bell on July 23, 2019.

Former VT roommates go to the dogs , article

Justin LeGore has always been an entrepreneur at heart. By the time he was a high school student, LeGore was running his own lawn care business in his hometown of Frederick, Maryland. His decision to major in business management fell perfectly in line with his lifelong ambitions – albeit after a false start as an engineering major, where, during one of his first classes, he asked, “when will I be able to start my own business?” and was unsatisfied by the answer.
