Every year, for 24 hours, Hokie Nation gathers in a friendly competition to show support for their favorite Virginia Tech departments, programs, student organizations, and teams. Giving Day 2023 is a unique opportunity for the Virginia Tech community to show their Hokie Spirit and maximize the good their gifts can do for Virginia Tech students and the global community.

This year, on Feb. 15-16, from noon-to-noon EST, Pamplin College of Business alumni, friends, faculty and staff, students, and other dedicated supporters will work to help the college keep its spot at the top of Virginia Tech’s Giving Day Leaderboard for a third straight year. Pamplin led all Virginia Tech colleges and units on Giving Day 2022, raising over $2.5 million with 2,314 unique donors.

The college's goal for Giving Day 2023 is 2,891 unique donors and every gift of at least $5 to one of 32 fund areas on the Pamplin Giving Day designations list will support the college in reaching this goal.

Maximize your impact as an ambassador

Much of Pamplin’s success on Giving Day can be traced to Giving Day ambassadors and the You+2 campaign. Giving Day ambassadors make their gifts using a unique ambassador link and encourage two other Hokies to make a gift through the same ambassador link on Giving Day to earn special swag. Ambassadors are provided with a Giving Day toolkit – complete with sample social media posts and images, customizable email templates, answers to frequently asked questions, and more – which will help spread the word about Giving Day.

Please visit Pamplin's Giving Day page to become an ambassador. Don't forget to select Pamplin as your designation.

Pamplin Giving Day challenges and bonuses

Giving Day is all about participation and building community through philanthropic engagement. In this spirit, different Giving Day challenge goals are directly tied to the number of unique donors to Pamplin. Donors may give to more than one area of Pamplin, but they will be credited only one time as a unique donor.

Whether a donor chooses to give to the college’s annual fund, a department or program, Pamplin's Office for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), the Global Business and Analytics Complex, or a student organization, every gift will help Pamplin prepare the next generation of business leaders.

Special giving challenges, unique to Giving Day, have the ability to aggregate and amplify all gifts made to Pamplin. These challenges are made possible thanks to the generous donations of fellow Pamplin supporters.

Pamplin Leaderboard Challenge

All Pamplin departments, programs, and initiatives will win a share of Pamplin Leaderboard challenge funds with potential opportunities for additional bonus funds to be unlocked as the college reaches specific donor milestones throughout Giving Day.

The top 10 units with the most donors to their area will be awarded a share of $100,000, with first place receiving $20,000, with the remaining funds to be distributed on a sliding scale based on leaderboard ranking, down to 10th place receiving $2,000.

Following Giving Day, Pamplin will award special bonuses to units #11-32 on the Leaderboard:

  • When Pamplin reaches 2,314 total donors (Giving Day 2022 unique donors), an additional $500 will be unlocked for units #11-32 on the leaderboard.
  • When Pamplin reaches its goal of 2,891 unique donors, an additional $500 will be unlocked for all units #11-32 on the leaderboard for a total of $1,000 for each #11-32 unit.

Pamplin's new location within the complex will feature team rooms, state-of-the-art classrooms, and labs that will greatly benefit Pamplin students.

Donors can make a gift to any Pamplin fund and help unlock funds for GBAC. For every 289 unique donors, an additional $12,400 will be unlocked for GBAC, up to a total of $124,000

The Global Business and Analytics Complex is one of the six top presidential priorities of Boundless Impact: The Campaign for Virginia Tech. The complex will consist of two academic buildings as well as multiple living-learning communities oriented around business, analytics, and international affairs. The first building of the complex, the Data and Decision Sciences Building, is currently undergoing construction near the intersection of Prices Fork Road and West Campus Drive.

The 2023 GBAC Challenge is facilitated by a collective of passionate Pamplin supporters, including Chris Shean ’87, David Phipps ’86, Dwight Shelton ’71, Brian Cook ’79, MBA ’81, and an anonymous Pamplin parent, all of whom believe strongly in the transformational educational experiences that GBAC will catalyze.

Virginia Tech will also hold various challenges throughout Giving Day. Any university challenges won by Pamplin will be shared with all participating units.

Pamplin Giving Day headquarters

In coordination with PRISM, the faculty-led, student-run next-generation marketing firm within Pamplin, volunteers will be staging an in-person Giving Day headquarters in the Pamplin Atrium. The headquarters will “open” at noon, Feb. 15, and will feature Giving Day giveaways and swag, as well as a Giving Day student participation booster event with pizza. All members of the Pamplin community are invited to stop by.
