Pamplin College of Business Interim Dean Robin Russell announces retirement
Bringing to a close an affiliation with the Pamplin College of Business that has spanned across six different decades, Interim Dean Roberta “Robin” Russell announced her retirement during a celebration of her career in May. Saonee Sarker has been named the next dean of the Virginia Tech Pamplin College of Business and will officially step into her new role on July 1, 2023.
Assuming leadership of Pamplin July 1, 2022, following the retirement of Robert Sumichrast, Russell’s role as interim dean was the culmination of a lifelong relationship with Pamplin and the greater Virginia Tech community. Raised by two Virginia Tech alumni, John Sr. and Margaret Snead, Russell first joined the faculty of Virginia Tech in 1983 after her time as a student in Pamplin. She would go on to earn promotions to associate professor in 1988 and to professor in 1993, before her appointment as head of the Department of Business Information Technology in 2017.
Through her years of service, Russell has become a part of the fabric of both Pamplin and Virginia Tech and will be missed.
