June 25: The Pamplin Pulse

From the Desk of Dean Sarker

May was a whirlwind of activity at Pamplin College of Business, which culminated in the college’s Commencement ceremonies. It was heartening to celebrate the achievements of our students as they set forth on new journeys. Following the academic rush, I embarked on a journey to meet with Hokies and friends on the West Coast before heading on to China. There, the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation thrives in the city of Xi’an, where students in our collaborative 3+1 program with Xidian University are preparing to spend their final year in Blacksburg, beginning in 2025.

Spring Commencement sees Pamplin alumni honored, highlighted

During May’s commencement exercises, three Pamplin College of Business alumni received recognition for their service to Virginia Tech, while another alum served as keynote speaker for the Pamplin College of Business spring commencement ceremony.

Mary Nolen Blackwood ’73 and Willis P. Blackwood ’72 were presented with the Ut Prosim Medal, the university’s highest honor, and one that is given for notable and remarkable service to the university.

James E. “Jim” Pearman Jr. ’70 received the Alumni Distinguished Service Award, which honors alumni in recognition of their outstanding service to the university, their communities, and their professions.

Yvonne McGill ’89, chief financial officer for Dell Technologies, provided the keynote speech during the Pamplin College of Business spring commencement ceremony.

Pamplin Advisory Council member named to Forbes list

Krystal McCants ’03, a principal at YHB CPAs & Consultants in Falls Church, Virginia, has been named to Forbes’ 2024 America’s Top 200 CPAs list.

McCants, a member of the Pamplin Advisory Council, said that being recognized on this first-of-its-kind list is “an honor” and has been “humbling.”

Forbes’ 2024 America’s Top 200 CPAs list recognizes the nation’s most exemplary certified public accountants. The list was curated by Forbes’ editorial staff, drawing from a wide pool of candidates nominated independently and recognized through various societies and associations of CPAs.
