As I complete my first full calendar year as Dean of the Pamplin College of Business, I find it a perfect time to reflect on our collective achievements and share an outline of what lies ahead in the first half of 2025.

What began as an initiative eight years ago to honor the Indian festival of Diwali has grown into an international cultural event that drew over 300 attendees this year.
Associate Dean Dr. Barbara Hoopes accepted an award at a recent event on behalf of the Pamplin Exec PhD program
“The Project Management Institute Washington DC Chapter (PMIWDC)—the largest chapter of its kind globally, boasting over 11,000 professional members—proudly honored our “VT – Virginia Tech Executive PhD” program with the 2024 President’s Trophy Award. This prestigious recognition celebrates their outstanding commitment and contributions as a GOLD Level Partner. Their exemplary partnership throughout 2024 has set a high standard for collaboration and excellence, underscoring the significant impact of dedicated partners and sponsors in advancing the field of project management.
Dr. Hoopes is the associate dean for the Graduate School in the greater Washington, D.C. metro area. Hoopes is associate professor of business information technology in the Pamplin College of Business.
Pamplin Awards: Call for Nominations
The Pamplin Society is facilitating the 2025 Pamplin Awards, and we encourage you to nominate an individual or corporate partner you think is deserving of recognition by Pamplin and its fellow alumni, students, and faculty. The awards were created to recognize alumni and corporate engagement and contributions to Pamplin and our students.
The following awards invite nominations which will then be reviewed by Dean Saonee Sarker for final selection:
Rising Alumni Award – alumni within the last 10 years who have achieved distinguished recognition in their career and rendered service to Pamplin and/or Virginia Tech since graduation
Mentoring Award – a distinguished alumnus who consistently embodies the spirit of mentorship of Pamplin students and/or graduates and those in their local community
Ut Prosim Award – a distinguished alumnus who has rendered service to the community and demonstrated a proven track record in the spirit of Virginia Tech’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve)
Philanthropy Award - an alumna/alumnus recognizing their generous and meaningful financial support of Pamplin and Virginia Tech
Corporate Ambassador Award – recipient is a company that has demonstrated ongoing support of Pamplin’s mission and its students
The nominations will remain open through February 21, and we need your help! Please take a moment to review and share the call for nominations and this exciting opportunity to recognize efforts that are making a difference for Pamplin and our students.

This career event is a great opportunity for industry professionals to connect with Virginia Tech students from all majors, but especially those in the Real Estate or property management program. Giving Day 2025
Noon to Noon
Feb. 19-20, 2025
Giving Day 2025 is coming fast, scheduled to be held between noon, Feb. 19, 2025, and noon, Feb. 20, 2025. This annual celebration of philanthropy is expected to be bigger and better than any Giving Day that has come before!
The success of Giving Day is dependent on the help from our outstanding Giving Day Ambassadors. Ambassador signups will begin in mid-January when the 2025 Giving Day site goes live. Until then, prospective Ambassadors can text HokieAmbassador (one word) to 51555 to be notified when Ambassador signups are live.
