Hokies in Silicon Valley

Earlier this month, Hokies and their friends in the Silicon Valley area joined Dean Sarker for a fireside chat with (far right) Arun Gupta, CEO, NobleReach Foundation (Stanford alumnus) and (middle) Mehul Sanghani '98, CEO and Founder of Octo. The discussion centered on insights from Gupta's bestselling book "Venture Meets Mission: Aligning People, Purpose, and Profit to Innovate and Transform Society" as well as reflections on entrepreneurship and the spirit of innovation.

Pamplin Hosts International Webinar on Rural and Regenerative Tourism

The Feiertag Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) Department hosted a collaborative webinar with Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Universitas Indonesia, and Universitas Gadjah Mada. The webinar, titled "Rural Tourism, Regenerative Tourism, and Technological Innovation," featured presentations by Dr. Nancy McGehee, R.B. Pamplin Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management and co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Travel Research, and Dini Hajarrahmah, a Virginia Tech HTM Ph.D. student and tourism entrepreneur. They discussed their research and provided information on Ph.D. opportunities at Virginia Tech HTM.

Dr. Heri Setiyorini, senior lecturer in the Tourism Marketing Management Study Program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, also presented her research on "Exploring the Pathway from Responsible Tourism to Regenerative Tourism: The Case of Indonesian Coffee Tourism Development." The webinar had over 100 participants from Indonesia, China, and Iceland, and concluded with a Q&A session.

 


Day for Data Symposium - Monday, November 4, 2024 at the Moss Arts Center

Plan to join us for the third-annual Day for Data Symposium, hosted by the Center for Business Analytics on behalf of Pamplin! This one-day conference is designed to give students real-world insights into the applications of data analytics, provide companies with a unique opportunity for recruitment, and connect faculty to industry to foster research partnerships. Topics include business analytics, artificial intelligence, data governance, and more. Professors, please consider offering extra credit to students who attend and complete an assignment related to the conference.

Heartland Heroes: A Veterans Day Tribute on Monday, November 11, 4:00pm EST

Please join us as we honor Hokies who go above and beyond the call of duty to embody the spirit of Virginia Tech's motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). Enjoy an exclusive screening of VPN PBS’ acclaimed docu-series, “Life in the Heartland,” featuring the inspiring story of Sammuel Kennedy, a Pamplin student veteran and president of the Veterans@VT student organization.

This event celebrates the sacrifices and contributions of our veterans while fostering a deeper understanding of their experiences. Alongside Sammuel’s story, we will feature guest speakers sharing their insights and journeys within the veteran community.

ACIS Alumni Tailgate on Saturday, November 9

Giving Day 2025

Noon to Noon
Feb. 19-20, 2025

Giving Day 2025 is coming fast, scheduled to be held between noon, Feb. 19, 2025, and noon, Feb. 20, 2025. This annual celebration of philanthropy is expected to be bigger and better than any Giving Day that has come before!

The success of Giving Day is dependent on the help from our outstanding Giving Day Ambassadors. Ambassador signups will begin in mid-January when the 2025 Giving Day site goes live. Until then, prospective Ambassadors can text HokieAmbassador (one word) to 51555 to be notified when Ambassador signups are live.
