Oliver Alvarez

Vice President of Security Architecture & Engineering; Marriott International, Inc.

Oliver Alvarez is the VP of Security Architecture & Engineering for Marriott, where he leads the teams of Architecture, Engineering, Application Security, Integration Management and IAM. Oliver’s VP tower is responsible for all Security Accreditation reviews, Frameworks, Approval to Operate (ATOs), Security Patterns, Engineer and IAM services.

Prior to Marriott Oliver came from IOMAXIS (based in Northern Virginia) where he Led Digital and created/responsible for Digital's Hybrid Cloud approach which creates fully automated, vendor agnostic and portable Hybrid Cloud solutions. He was also responsible for extending and creating new solutions based on IOMAXIS patents in Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Security.  Prior to IOMAXIS, Oliver was the Lead of the World Bank Group (WBG) security cloud and emerging technology teams - the teams that oversees the security accreditations for WBG’s cloud and mobile solutions.

Raised in Alexandria, Virginia, Oliver is a first generation American with a Bolivian heritage and is fluent in Spanish.  He resides in Centreville, Virginia with his wife and two children.  In his free time, he is Scoutmaster for his son's Boy Scout Troop, helps his daughter sell Girl Scout cookies and is a historical rapier fencer. 

Oliver is a graduate of Adrian College with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a minor in Business Administration.
