Doug Patterson, professor of finance in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The emeritus title may be conferred on retired professors, associate professors, and administrative officers who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.

A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1980, Patterson made significant contributions to the study of finance through his work in financial econometrics focusing on time-series analysis. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Patterson taught at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

In the classroom, Patterson has taught a variety of courses across the finance curriculum at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. He has advised numerous students on doctoral dissertations  and helped them develop successful careers in both business and academe.

Patterson received his bachelor’s degree, MBA, and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
