Once again, Business Horizons has proven to be one of the best career fairs for student job seekers and recruiters alike. On Thursday, Sept. 7, thousands of students had the opportunity to connect with more than 150 of the top recruiting organizations. This year, Business Horizons broke many records.

A record 2600 students made their way through Commonwealth Ballroom’s doors over the course of six hours. Business Horizons is equally as exciting for recruiters as it is for the students. Business Horizons sold out for companies in early July—the earliest it has ever sold out.

For Maria Wallace, a Technology Consultant at Accenture, Business Horizons has become an annual event. “This is my fourth year coming back down for Business Horizons,” said Wallace. “It’s been getting bigger and better every single year. We come down and try to get the best candidates but everyone is so well-qualified coming out Pamplin, it’s just so great to come down and see so many qualified students.”

This career fair is a key time for employers to recruit and find outstanding students for their teams. On Sept. 8, the day following Business Horizons, more than 600 student interviews were conducted.

Jaci Pulice, Senior Corporate Recruiter at Beacon Hill, commented on the excitement that comes with recruiting students: “Last spring we attended Business Horizons, we met three great hires that started with us in July. It’s so exciting to come back with the hope that we’ll meet more people like them. For us, it’s about really growing our presence at Pamplin meeting more students and having them join Beacon Hill down the line.”

A team of 74 student volunteers assisted with employer check-in and check-out and general booth set-up. Business Horizons itself is a student-run organization, with five committees covering logistics, IT, corporate correspondence, hospitality, and publicity.
