Frequently Asked Questions
Virtual Academic Advising and Course Registration Questions
When is Virtual Academic Advising and Course Registration?
Virtual Academic Advising and Course Registration for newly admitted Pamplin students will begin in mid-December. Students will receive more information from the Pamplin advising team about how to complete the course registration process and schedule an advising appointment via their vt.edu email address.
How is Advising and Registration different than Spring Orientation?
Spring Orientation is facilitated by New Student and Family Programs and will introduce you to the campus community as well as provide important information and resources to help you succeed as a new student at VT. Virtual Academic Advising and Course Registration will occur prior to Spring Orientation and will be facilitated through the Pamplin College of Business. It is imperative that you participate in both Spring Orientation and the Virtual Academic Advising and Course Registration process, recognizing that they are two separate programs occurring at different times.

Other Questions
I can’t access my HokieSpa account because of 2-Factor authentication. What is this?
2-Factor authentication is a high-security login process. Virginia Tech uses Duo Security to ask individuals for a secondary confirmation of their identity at log-in. Please enroll in 2-Factor authentication prior to attending new student advising and registration.
What is FERPA?
FERPA stands for the “Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.” FERPA was designed to protect the privacy of a student’s educational records. Virginia Tech personnel do not disclose personal information on a student’s records to anyone, including family members, without the student’s documented consent via a FERPA passcode. For more information, please visit the University Registrar website.
