Student Learning Outcomes
The Pamplin College of Business is proud to be fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Accreditation consists of various standards, one of which is assessment of student learning – referred to by AACSB as Assurance of Learning (AoL). As defined by Polomba and Banta (1999), AoL is “the systematic collection, review, and use of information about educational programs undertaken for the purpose of improving student learning and development.” Pamplin rigorously embraces this ongoing AoL process, which is not course-specific, but rather measures student learning across the curriculum. The benefit of AoL is continuous curricular improvement.
The Pamplin College of Business has four mission-driven learning outcomes/goals that define undergraduate education.
- Effective Written and Verbal Communications
- Business Intelligence and Analytics
- Technology Utilization
- Business Skills for an International Context
The first learning outcome (effective communications) is measured annually through course embedded methods. The remaining outcomes are measured via application of the Educational Testing Services (ETS) Major Field Test in Business. This Major Field Test is administered annually to seniors, and every other year to freshmen. After data are collected and reports are produced for the overall college and individual major departments, action plans are developed as necessary.
