The focus of Venkatesh’s research is on understanding the diffusion of technologies in organizations and society. One of his most significant projects on which he has been working for nearly two decades, and still ongoing, focuses on improving quality of life for India’s poorest population, work he has presented at various forums including at the United Nations.

Venkatesh has published in leading journals in human-computer interaction, information systems, organizational behavior, psychology, marketing, medical informatics, and operations management. He has served in editorial roles at various journals.

He is widely regarded as one of the most influential scientists both in terms of publications and impact. In regard to citations, he ranks number one in the field of information systems and 659 out of eight million scientists in all fields.

He is a Fellow of both the Association for Information Systems (AIS) and the Information Systems Society of INFORMS. An information systems research rankings web site that Venkatesh developed and maintains has earned him many accolades from the academic community including the Technology Legacy Award from the AIS.
