Gordon’s research interests are sustainability, social responsibility and service operations. A focus of this research is the intersection of sustainability and social responsibility and how firms can use such investments to improve competitive positioning.

His articles have examined the synergistic effects of green manufacturing and social responsibility in competition; types of corporate social responsibility and their effect on firm profitability; and valuation and investment strategies of carbon capture and storage technology.

Gordon has received several fellowships and grants for his doctoral research and given presentations on his work at national conferences. His professional activities include serving as president and in other leadership roles in the Ph.D. Project Information Systems Doctoral Student Association.
