Employee Spotlight

Each employee below has been submitted for this recognition by their colleagues.

Maria Steward

Maria Steward, Associate Director of Alumni & Corporate Outreach

Let's give a Hokie Shoutout to Maria Stewart, who represents the DC Pamplin Graduate Programs with dedication and enthusiasm, both in the forefront and behind the scenes. Beyond her primary responsibilities, Maria takes the lead on unique projects, ensures boots are on the ground for program representation, provides essential marketing support, and consistently extends our social media reach (because the more we like our posts, the more others will too!). Serving as a true advocate for our Pamplin Graduate Programs, Maria is an asset to our organization, and we greatly appreciate her commitment to enhancing their success. Thank you, Maria, for your contributions and support.

Onur Seref

Onur Seref, Associate Professor BIT

I just wanted to take a minute and give Onur Seref kudos. I’m in his BIT 5524 class for the MSBABA and snapped this picture because I was so proud.

Most faculty members in the classes that I’ve had in recent years have discussed the Principles of Community and shared the link, but Onur really went into depth and the takeaways of the POC. In addition, he set the tone with three statements (see below) that are not only in the syllabus and listed on the slide but reiterated verbally to the class on the first day.

It was a powerful moment in class that I greatly appreciate as an advocate for DEIB but also as a student.

“ I believe in an environment of inclusivity and equality. I support respect for diversity. I expect you to behave respectfully towards your peers in this class. I do not allow outward displays of racism or antagonism of any kind in my classroom or online meetings.”
