A Note from Desk of Dean Sarker

Celebrating Women in Business Week, Pamplin Makes History:

For the first time in Pamplin’s history, five of the six associate and assistant deans serving the college on the executive leadership team self-identify as women.

“I think Women in Business Week is a great occasion to, first of all, celebrate the accomplishments of women,” said Sarker. “Secondly, I think it’s another important time where we can reflect on all the things that have been done in the past, realize where we have come, and the women who have come to this point, and also for what lies ahead in the future.”

Announcements

The PAC DEIB Committee – a subcommittee of the Pamplin Advisory Council – is looking for faculty, staff, and student member representatives!

For more information, and if interested, please fill out the Interest form linked in our QR code by Wednesday, October 11th, 2023.    For further information please contact deib@vt.edu

It's time to start thinking about spring assignments for the Engage Undergraduate TA Program!  Faculty members teaching undergraduate courses in the spring should have already received a shared Google sheet where they can specify how many TAs are requested for each section, along with faculty requirements for TAs (minimum grade in the course, in-class availability, etc.).  If you cannot find the link for this sheet, please contact Engage Director, Dr. Barbara Fraticelli (fraticelli@vt.edu).

Engage TAs are current undergraduate students who work a weekly average of 6 hours/position at a rate of $12/hour, and they can take up to 2 positions per semester.  They are trained in holding office hours, grading, running Zoom sessions, administering Canvas sites, and other duties.

For faculty requesting TA support in the spring, we highly encourage you to contact current (or past) high-performing students to see if they are interested in serving as your TA.  The assignment process works best when faculty members nominate students who they can work well with.  If you do not have specific students to nominate, we will assign an appropriate student from those who apply.

Student applications will open on Monday, October 30th, so we would like faculty requirements by Sunday, October 29th.  The nomination of specific students can continue through Friday, November 10th.
